This is for the Americans on my FList

Warren Buffet is asking each of us to forward a copy of the *Congressional Reform Act of 2011* to a minimum of twenty people and in turn to ask each of those to do likewise. In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

*Congressional Reform Act of 2011*
1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social
Security. All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to theSocial Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.
Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and
participates in the same health care system as the American people.

6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void
effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work. If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive the message. Maybe it is time. THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971...before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc. Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land...all because of public pressure.

If you agree with the above, pass it on.

I think all government workers, all the way down to the park sweeper, should have a job that is just like everyone else's. No gold plated pensions, health care, and a job that continues to pay top dollar even after retirement. They have found that almost all the new jobs created were government jobs. Do the math. All of those benefits, top dollar pay rates, and guarantees cost exorbitant amounts for the work actually being done. If we just cut down everyone's staff, we would also reduce a huge amount of pay. Our officials are actually given more money depending on the size of their staff. We even have a problem with staff hiring staff. Pelossi ordered two personal jets on the government dime. She allows her family to use them. The cost per trip is tremendous and we pay for it. Obama spent millions on each of his vacations/trips taking tremendous amounts of non essential staff and billing the American public for exorbitant accommodation costs. His wife went on her own vacation and spent more millions. I think its easy to see where the money is going and where it can be saved.

My mother always says that government workers - especialy those in positions of power - should get a salary fitting to their job. That's necessary so that they're not tempted to take bribes.

But there is no reason why someone who's been elected to a government position should suddenly have benefits and money and special treatment that no one else in the country gets.

Whatever you think of the man politically, one can't escape the fact that he has been spending millions and millions of dollars on himself and his family. The term, "Let them eat cake." Comes to mind. Anytime anyone questions the expenses, the tired , "Well, he is the President...", or, "You're just complaining because he's black..." Keeps being used as a defense. His wife's trip to Europe with nearly 300 hanger ons, and millions spent, was horrendously over the top.

We found that a janitor in a school can make almost eighty thousand a year, including benefits and pensions. These people are almost impossible to fire, as well, when they don't perform. They often get enormous 'severance packages' when they ARE actually let go.

To put it in perspective, you only have to say to yourself, "How many family's could have lived a year on that one trip expense?"

I think he's one of *the* richest men in the USA - I'm not sure about the world, but the US, yes.

He's donated a great deal of his wealth to charitable organizations... :)

And he's convinced that the "1%" need to pay more taxes.

I like him, too. :)

Always check...
http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/buffett.asp

Go down to the bottom and you'll see that Buffet did say the 3% thing, but the rest of the email isn't him. It's from 2009 and he's not asking people to forward it. There's more info here:

If you google, you'll see more sites on the topic too.

Thank you for the links. I received this from a reliable source so I didn't see the necessity of researching the statements. But I'll be sure to do so in the future.
