Dear FList, I need your help...

I *desperately* need to do two things:
- loose weight
- get in shape

Not because I want to look like some Hollywood actress, but because I a) I hate the way I look and b) I am having trouble with my body. My right knee is starting to hurt, I've been having back pains for weeks now, I have trouble catching my breath, and you all remember that lovely little side-trip to the hospital that I took just recently.

There's only one solution to it: see the two points above.

Here's where I need your help.

While my *reason* tells me that, yes, it's a good idea to do those things, that evil little voice inside of me is saying, "What the hell, you've come this far, why bother to change things? You *really* don't need to do any exercise, you're still walking, right? Oh, that bit of chocolate won't do any harm (eats entire bar). You've had back pains for years, so why bother about them now?" And so on...

What I need is motivation.

One: I want to post my daily attempts here - and to be soundly scolded and guilted when I don't keep it up.
Two: I would like to receive a litte reward every week, when I *do* manage to keep going. Like... a little 1=2 ficcy at the end of the week?

I would be more than happy to have any of you join me in this venture, too, and then I'd definitely do my *damnest* to write for *you* by the end of the week (good incentive for me to get back into writing).

I want to be doing the following each week:

- do 30 minutes of some kind of exercise a day. Not more, because that takes too much time out of my day, but I've found 30 minutes to be an acceptable time limit. Exercise can be anything: half an hour on my exercise bike, half an hour swimming, 30 minutes brisk walk... but I *have* to actually *do* it that day
- watch my eating. I want to *try* to loose 1 kg a week. That may not always be possible (birthdays coming up, along with dinners out; business dinners; whatever), but I want to get as close to that 1 kg as possible

There are only a few things that will be permitted as a reason *not* to fill my daily quota:
- being sick
- being on a business trip with no possibilities of taking time out for exercise, or not having the facilities to do so
- an emergency of some kind (husband dropping dead, mother in hospital, whatever)
- vacation time (though I will be going down to Italy this year, so I can get the exercise part right - just not the eating. ^^)

Are you willing to help? Or do you want to join me?

I would be *ever* so grateful to all of you. I need to do this, or I won't be able to keep up with the kind of stress that I'm going through at the moment. But I can't do it alone.

*bows deeply in gratefullness to FList*

Hey, cool. I'm really fond of your idea.

But
"being on a business trip with no possibilities of taking time out for exercise, or not having the facilities to do so"
sounds a little like an excuse. ;-) You do not need facilities for exercise - a walk in the park or round the corner would do. Don't you think?

I guess I'll join you, at least in your training efforts.
I'll have to do much training for clogging anyway, because learning to cue ist not that easy.

And regarding exercise: I found for myself that when you have found the right kind of sports for you you just get addicted to the exercise involved. So try to find your sport.

Hm. I was thinking more of the types of business trips involved in running a dealer's table at a convention. When you've been on your feet for anywhere from 6-12 hours, then have dinner with your artists and get back to the hotel by about 11 pm or midnight, a walk in the park doesn't excactly sound very thrilling. ^^ Normal, short trips, yes, I agree with you there...

My problem is: I hate sports. *All* kinds of sports. And the only thing that *might* interest me (Kung Fu) is being taught an hour's drive away from here. That just isn't really feasable. So I *know* I have to do something, but I *hate* the doing of it.

Nope. That's my guilty pleasure when I've been good. ^^

I'll push you if you push me? I've got to do much of the same, and it's getting critical. If I don't make progress soon, I'm getting medicated, and I would like to avoid that for as long as humanly possible.

Sure. I intend to start tomorrow.

I'll post my weight and what I've done exercise-wise. Before I go to bed, I'll add a post as to whether I've watched my dietary intake, too.

Should we make an extra community for this? Then all of us who participate (either just writing or actually exercising and/or dieting) can post there?

*sigh*
I'm with you on all of that! I have my 5km walk next weekend, yet to be honest, just walking into town makes my sciatica play up at the base of my spine, and my knees are weak, too. I would like to lose weight too, and I *know* I haven't been giving it any attention recently.

Anyway, good luck to you - I'll happily encourage you if you make regular posts, and maybe even eke out a 1=2 drabble when a week goes well! (if that's any motivation for you!!!!) Hey, maybe *TWO* drabbles if it motivates me to try the same myself *lol*

*hugs*

Oooohhhh... drabbles! I'll be *very* motivated, if it gets me drabbles from you! *hugs*

Well, you could join us, if you want. And we can encourage each other and help keep it up... we could make an extra community for that?

I''m always willing to help you, even if it's just listening. I've lost so many pounds so many times I feel like a yo-yo.

I will say that the best way is still Weight Watchers. I felt the best on that. It allows for so much, where the other plans don't and you get sick of them real quick. So if you are in for a long haul, go with the best.

I lost 100 lbs. on WW (if only it would last) and never really exercised. Was always too busy.

Yeah, the yo-yo effect. In 2004, I lost 20 kg. Then my husband came back home from rehab in 2005. Since then it's gone right back to where it was before.

Actually, I have a really good diet - kept with it for over 5 months. I just have to get *started* again... And that's the hard part... :()

Every week I will drabble for you if you manage to exercise 30 minutes at least 3 days out of the week. That's 30 minutes of some kind of movement. I expect you to keep a log though!

I have also been making the effort to exercise daily - specifically, I take Briley for a walk every day, unless the weather just won't allow (which doesn't happen anymore). I have been very proud of myself that I haven't missed a day in a long time.

I'm not that great about posting in LJ, but if it will help, I will walk with you. I can't promise daily updates, but I will most likely read yours daily (at least most days! :) ) even if I dan't respond right away. I will try to keep up with you, though!

Cool! I confess that I was too lazy to take long walks with my daughter when she was small. Also, since she's born at the end of September, we were heading into winter. You don't take walks when there's a snowstorm outside. ^^ And I was just too lazy to push my way through all that snow when the storms were over.
At heart, I'm a very laid back person. Which is why I *really* need incentive for it...
