Eh... I seem to have gotten sucked in by Naruto. *blush*

Actually, I spent the weekend watching tons of Naruto episodes and have come to the conclusion that this is a really good series. I didn't think so before, because here (in Germany) it's being promoted as a kiddies series. And after I'd seen what they'd done to the original anime (I wonder that there's still anythink *left* of each episode to watch after the censors have gotten through with it), I realized that no, this is *not* a series for little kids - it's actually quite serious. And so... I ended up watching.

Now, I have a request of my flist:

Can you recommend any *good* Naruto ff? Preferrably angsty, well written, mature contents (not only sex, but the story, too), focussing on Sasuke and his brother? Smut optional.

I'd be much oblidged...

And here I thought I'd be the last person to start watching Naruto. ^_____^ I thought it was going to be stupid, but I really like it, too. I like the bad guys best.

I don't read much in that fandom, so I only have one rec for either of those guys. It's Itachi-centric and gen. I hope that's okay.

I'd resisted for oh, so long, until I finally saw an original episode while in Japan. I never forgot it. Though the way it's being promoted here, it's geared solely towards kids. And it's been cut to hell and back. They took the already cleaned up US-Version and 'cleaned' it even more. So there are tons of scenes missing, people 'go away' instead of dying, and so on. Which is what kept me away from it.

But I confess, seeing you putting up the links for the downloads kind of made me re-evaluate. And so I bought the whole thing. And now I can't stop watching. ^^

Thanks for the rec! I'll go read later, when I've got a bit of quiet time.

I saw one episode while in Japan and I never forgot it. But the way it's being promoted here (as a show for little kids) kind of put me off it. And then I just figured, what the hell, bought the whole set - and now I'm hooked. *sigh*

They were running multiple episodes on the cartoon network and I caught a part of one. I think I'd like to see the original episodes. Are they dubbed or with sub-titles?

The ones I have are subbed. I prefer subs, among other things because I can turn them off and practice listing to Japanese. ^^

Naruto is the sh*t. Yeah it's hard to believe when it's aimed at kids here. I only watch the subs as they come out so I don't know how badly it is butchered for kids tv, but I can just imagine. I know a coupla of decent Naruto Sasuke fics that are good stories. Itachi is cool, but those two aren't really my thang. Wrote a Naruto/Sai(manga) story and want to write a good Naruto/Neji because there are almost no Naruto Neji fics out there. No good ones anyway.

Welcome to the club!

I was on a website that showed ep by ep the cutting that had been done. And I was like O.O O.o! Blood? There *is* no blood in Naruto. People dying? Nope, people 'go away'.

*headshake*

I hate when they do that to the japanese series. *sigh* Just to keep kids from seeing the reality. By now kids are being packed in so much fluff, they probably believe that everyone out there's their best friend. Bah. Humbug.

I'll just wander around the FF sites a bit and see if I can find anything interesting...

They're among some of the best (and most prolific) Naruto ficcers on my flist.

As for Naruto itself, no, it's not for small children, but neither is it *intended* for adults -- then again, an adult writing a story for 15 year old boys doesn't always mean you get pap. Sometimes it means you get an adult-level complexity in the story, because the author is still young enough to recall that kids are capable of handling it.

Naruto is a rather unusual shonen-genre story, at that.

Thank you for the recs. I started going through them and reading - oh my, I think I'm going to have a problem, time-wise. ^^

Adult-level complexity in japanese Animes is what I truly love about them. They don't think that kids are stupid and brain-dead, just because they are kids. Here, they cut everything down to the level of 6 year olds... No matter what the series. *sigh*

I am not well-read enough in the fandom to offer anything useful, alas. But if you ever find yourself in the market for some Zabuza/Haku, poke me! ♥
