Has the world come to an end? >.>

Talked to my mother today on the phone. Nothing special, just the regular "how are you, how's things?" etc call that I make once or twice a week.

After commiserating with her about her cat (older brother to Puntino, the cat in my icon, by the way), I told her about the new series of pictures that I'd uploaded to DA.

And then...

...she said something totally incredible...

...she complimented me.

Has the sky fallen?

Has the earth moved?

Has the world ended?

My mother. Complimenting me on my photos. Telling me that I've got a good eye for composition and that the photos I've uploaded are really good.

Excuse me, while I go have a heart attack now...

*sigh* Just a few weeks back, in another one of those phone conversations, she said: "Well, you might have a few slight abilities, but you don't have any talent at all..."

Needless to say, I was crushed. Took me days to pick myself up again... *sigh*

Awww dear, parents sometimes are so avar about praises... they doesn't know that their children need them. Even when they become adult. We live trying to make them proud...

Unfortunately, my mother knows *all* the buttons to push so that I feel really bad. *She* says, she's only looking out for me... but in reality she's just destroying whatever little self-confidence I have, every time.

Very frustrating.

Darling, I know what that means... my dad and my mom are like your mother... always to destroy my little confidence, and now I'm an unsure thing, too much... sigh I hope to be a better parent.

^_____^ Yay mum!

The pictures are very pleasant to look at, no wonder even the most unlikely people complement you! :P

Thank you for the compliment. Coming from you, that's high praise, indeed! *hugs*

Now all I have to work on is believing it... :)

You've just started playing around with that new camera too. I was impressed with the ones you posted and told you I thought it was trick photography at first. (Of course, you had a great subject in that amazing, death-defying cat.)

But they all showed a wonderful feel for light and shadows.

I lived most of my life estranged from my father because all he did (when he chose to talk to us at all) was to critize. However, since he did it with everyone, I soon learned to recognize it was him and not me. It doesn't hurt any the less so, even if you tell yourself multiple times that it shouldn't.

(((H))) Please post more pics. I love to look at them.

True, my cat's a *very* good subject for my pictures. ^^

Thank you.

It doesn't hurt any the less so, even if you tell yourself multiple times that it shouldn't.

And that's the real problem, isn't it? That no matter how often we tell ourselves that we're grown up, that we know our own strengths and weaknesses, it only takes a word or two from our parents and we feel like stupid, inadequate 8 year olds again.

Aaaaah, supportive mothers....
I remember being a teenager and my mother telling me that my FEET were my best feature. Bless 'er!
I bring her stuff (books/magazines) I worked on and she barely glances at them. IDK *shrugs*

I don't get it. Why do they do it? Can't be because they're convinced that that's "good for us"... >.<

Oh well... maybe one day, I'll be old enough to be able to ignore all that. :)
