Why does my muse *insist* on turning smut into story? >.> Can't she be happy with them just jumping into the sack and humping madly?

I have that problem! I once wrote some comment Hikago smut - short as hell, pr0n... THICK WITH PLOT.

WTF. Hahaha. <3
May. 26th, 2010 10:04 pm (UTC)

I started out thinking, oh, I'll just do a quick smut piece... now I'm up to page 7 (3918 words) and they haven't even *kissed*!

Hee. <3
May. 26th, 2010 11:42 pm (UTC)
Don't I know that problem >.> I don't think I've never written a *real* PWP yet... there always was some story around it, even if it wasn't much. But yeah, picky muses are picky ^^;;
May. 27th, 2010 07:52 am (UTC)
I think I've managed *one* PWP. And even that one had a tiny smidgen of story. Now I'm up to 3950 words and so far, all they've done is lust over each other - while trying not to let on to the other guy that that's what they're doing...

Time I get them down and dirty!

Then again, I'm so thankful that I'm writing again, I don't really mind all *that* much. ^^
May. 27th, 2010 10:02 am (UTC)
*chuckles* That reminds me of the multi-parter that I'm writing on right now XD It started out as a simple prompt with them having sex in the rain... it took me about 15 pages until they had sex at all, but not the rain yet. Now I'm up to 100+ pages and while there have been multiple sex-scenes, the rain-sex still didn't happen ^^;; (though it's planned at least... ^^;;)

But yeah, I know what you mean. When you look at all these periods where writer's block hits you... I'm just glad that I can write at all.
May. 27th, 2010 10:06 am (UTC)

Multi-parter, hm? That sounds like my NaNo... That's morphed from something vaguely fanfic-like into a story all of its own. Suddenly, my characters demand personalities, and lives, and back-stories, and so on... And yes, sex, too. :)

I've been blocked from writing fo so long, it was almost agony to start again. But now it looks like the Muse is feeling right at home with me.

*builds shrine to the muse*
May. 27th, 2010 11:37 pm (UTC)
No. No she can't. :>
May. 28th, 2010 10:33 am (UTC)
Love your icon!

*sigh* How right you are...

*still typing away at the story part* >.>
May. 28th, 2010 01:00 am (UTC)
I try to sqwunch (Yea, that's a word I swear) bits of story and mystery into one-shots of smut and I end up with seven characters instead of two,-

Gen: ORGY!

Shut UP, Gen. -too many adjectives, and plot-distractions. Which is like plot bunnies, but they got stuffed into a one-shot instead of making their own stories. *sigh*
May. 28th, 2010 10:35 am (UTC)
Sqwunch? Love it! :)

Seven instead of two? Ye Gods! Sounds like my stories... Suddenly there's a whole mob of characters that all want their say! >.>

*gg* Orgies are good! ;)

Oh.. I own a Plot Bunny from Hell! Maybe *that's* why all my stories explode into mini-epics?
May. 29th, 2010 10:22 am (UTC)
It's my own special word. Vocabu-FAIL skillz (with a 'z', to let you know I mean it), I has them.

My 'plot distractions' are similar to random tangents but they don't leave the plot, they are the plot... It's complicated.

Gen: Orgies are healthy for the soul.

He means it, too.

Hmmm... Plot Bunny from hell. That mean you have a Zombie Plot Bunny?
May. 29th, 2010 09:42 pm (UTC)
I agree with Gen... sometimes you just need a good orgy, to get things settled again. ;)

No, I actually do have the Plot Bunny from Hell: They're actually called Flaming Bunnies and come from here: http://www.kimharrison.net/MailBox.html#BunnyPins

Gen: Ah, finally. Somebody who understands.

Ha! That's hysterical. I think I have to get one now.
Jun. 1st, 2010 10:52 pm (UTC)

Oh, I'm all for good orgies! And kink. And pervy stuff! Whatever feels good. :)

But this fanfic that I was working on is along more conventional lines...

Isn't it great? I got it as a present, and it's been guarding my desk ever since. I think it whispers into my ears when I sleep... >.>
Jun. 1st, 2010 11:06 pm (UTC)

Conventional is good too.

I really need something to whisper in my ear when I sleep, maybe get rid of my damn writers block. Bleh.
Jun. 1st, 2010 11:08 pm (UTC)

Writer's block is teh Evil! >.<

I had it for *years*! Then I started with just a sentence or two. Not even a proper story or anything. And the more I tried a few sentences, the louder the muse got. Now I can't stop her anymore. O.o
Jun. 1st, 2010 11:14 pm (UTC)
Yick. Ick and yuck = Yick.

I can't seem to finish anything. I get through the beginning and the middle, but finishing? No. Muse says, "Not happening. I'm not feelin' it.".

Ave: I do not!

Yes. You do.
Jun. 1st, 2010 11:18 pm (UTC)
Yick... I like that one! :)

I have that problem sometimes, too. Funny enough, with the original story that I am currently working on I suddenly sat up one day and knew *exactly* what the last sentence was going to be! Now all I have to do is put the parts together... And then revise. And rewrite. *sigh*

Hm... do you kind of run out of steam? Or does the story just run on and on?
Jun. 1st, 2010 11:23 pm (UTC)
I have a dictionary of interesting terms from over the years.

I get that sometimes.

More like I can't stick to the character. I'll come up with several endings that I think are great, and realize the characters are saying and doing things they would never do, have to scratch it and start over.
Jun. 1st, 2010 11:29 pm (UTC)

Hm... That only happens towards the end, or in the course of writing the story? Why not turn the story into an AU instead? Or maybe the beginning is the problem - starting out with one image in your head and ending up with another in the end?

While I was writing my original I realized that I was going to have to go back to the beginning to revise the characters according to what they had become in the end. Because by the end, I knew who they were, where they came from, what motivated them and so on. I didn't know that when I started. So I'm kind of writing backwards... :)

Have you ever tried working with a program like Dramatica Pro? It helps you map out characters and structures. I never used it for the whole story, but it *did* help me get a grip on the characters.
Jun. 1st, 2010 11:52 pm (UTC)
I've done AU stuff and haven't liked what I've done so far.

I try not to start out with any more of an idea where the story is going aside from one prompt-type sentence and a few little details that are subject to change as the story and characters do.

If I go back and re-write any of the beginning I tend to completely lose the plot. Any editing of the beginning gets done before the ending is final.

Lol plot webs used the irritate me like nothing else. I can do mini webs on my own to figure things out on paper but aside from that it ends badly =P

So you see my dilemma. I'm mostly having trouble with my one-shots. The multi-chapters both long and short I manage to get a rough outline and smooth it down, It's a challenge but not impossible. One or two chapters bits? No.
Jun. 2nd, 2010 12:10 pm (UTC)

I confess that I started my last original (which was *supposed to be a NaNoWriMo, but I was still missing around 5000 words or so by the time midnight rolled around) with only a vague idea in my head. By now - having written the last sentence - I know what comes in the middle. So it's kind of confused... ;)

One shots are difficult. Mine usually end up being epics for some reason. Just this fanfic alone - the one that started this whole "-ing" question of mine - ended up being 12 pages and 7362 words. >.> So I know what you're talking about.

Hm. Maybe if you see the one-shots as a photograph that you describe?
Jun. 2nd, 2010 04:59 pm (UTC)
Lol. I once upon a time, years ago, made the mistake of planning out everything about my characters before writing anything. Turns out, bad idea. Muses and characters alike united against me.

I'm usually pretty good at one-shots. Avery says it 'cause I'm lazy. He might be on to something.

Hm... Never tried that. That might work... Now I have to try it.

Computer spontaneously logged me out.

*is pissed*

Evil Computers!

I don't think I've planned out a single story. Mostly it just starts with a sentence. Or an image - mostly images. Or a scene that suddenly pops into my head. Then I start writing from there.

Just this afternoon, while making lunch, I had this sudden flash of idea while handling a knife in the kitchen, and just *had* to sit down and write it. It became a short FF7 fanfic. I was so frantic I started scribbling on anything in sight. It wasn't very long, just 590 words. But I'm quite pleased with it. :)

I totally love your muse! Not that there's anything wrong with the humping madly and leaving it at that approach, but I wouldn't get to read the longer versions complete with humping madly as well! It's like getting a two for the price of one kinda deal.

Yay ravensilvers muse!
May. 28th, 2010 10:37 am (UTC)
*gg* When you put it that way... ^___^ Then I'll give the muse free hand!

*typing away madly*

7 pages and still no pr0n...
