*thinking about the future*

It's all amarissia's fault, what with her talk of taking online courses.

Just on a whim, I googled online university courses - in the UK, because here in Germany we don't believe that anyone who has *finished* University would *ever* want to take another course in his or her life. So there is no 'going back to College/University as a full-time employed adult'. What I mean to say is that we *do* have community learning centers, but they're geared more towards the 'oh so you want to dabble a bit in your hobby' crowd. Not towards *maybe* getting back to accumulating University credits so you *might* finish up a degree... >.> There are no "Departments of Continuing Education" in our Universities.

But... in the UK you can. ^___^;

So... I looked around and saw this.

I get 10 creds out of it, if I finish it. And that can count towards actually getting a degree - online. >.> They even have archaeology as an online course (is *terribly* tempted...).

What do you think? Creative Writing - maybe combined with English Lit? To further my knowledge of writing? Not too much in the beginning - I haven't done University courses in a *very* long time. But maybe one or two to start with?

Having a degree would *really* be nice... I wonder whether they'd accept my ancient credits that I'd gotten at NYU, way, way, *way* back?... *ponders some more*.

YAY! We'd practically be going to school together! Hey, if I can handle it, you can rock it. And it might keep your mind off the lack of Cilli, right?

I'm not sure... think I can do it? I still have all the other stuff around me - life, job, business...

Though, to be honest, I'm *seriously* thinking about giving up my online shop. I still have a lot of stuff here, and I'm not quite sure how I'm going to be able to get rid of all of it, but more and more I'm thinking about just letting the shop go. Keeping up just the work on the publishing company. Because even though that's quite a bit, it's nothing I can't handle.

And it *would* point me in the right direction again, wouldn't it?

Talked to Cilli for almost an hour today on the phone. :) She sounds like she's finally settling in all right... :)

Whatever feels like the right direction probably is, and usually is, in my experience. *waves magical wand of luck and right decisions*

Good, so she's having fun? Excellent!

Yeah, the more I think about the shop, the more I'm convinced it will be the right thing to do.

About the writing course... I'm still thinking...

Well, she saw kangaroos, and the beach, and a chocolate factory, and a botanic garden so far. And she already bought her school uniform. And she's getting along fabulously with her host family. So I think she'll have a grand old time... :)

I agree - you can never know enough. I'm just worried about not having enough time and discipline to do it. >.>

I think it would depend on how feasible getting the degree would be? Would those old credits count, or would you be starting over from scratch?

If I start taking courses at Oxford Online, then I can work up towards a degree. I'd have to check with them to see whether they would accept my credits from NYU towards a degree from Oxford. I'm not sure whether that would work. Otherwise I'd have to start all over.

Wow! I had no idea that a place like Oxford would do online courses - and SO CHEAP! *rummages around site*.
Ummmm back to you... YES! DOOOOO IIIIIIIIIIIIT!

Neither did I! I didn't even know that such a thing was possible, until amarissia said that she was starting an online course in medical transcription. So I suddenly had this idea, that maybe there's something similar available for writing...

And there you are...

I'm seriously thinking about it! :)

I must admit, I'm also tempted - all those short courses look like they may be interesting, but hmmmm... creative writing
Jul. 20th, 2010 12:00 pm (UTC)
That's why I like this. The courses are short enough that you don't get the feeling that you can't handle them - on top of everything else in your life.

And creative writing would be good, I think, because (I would hope) it might help me in developing my own writing better...
