I may survive...

I'll let you know tomorrow... ^___^;

Actually, everything went very well! I had dinner ready (more or less) at exactly 5 pm, when everyone arrived. Only needed a little tweaking of the sauce, dishing out the dumplings, cutting the meat.

Roast pork was *perfect*! It virtually *melted* off the bones... It was absolutely succulent. The only thing that went 'wrong', if you want to call it that, is that I put the whole roast under the grill for a few moments and didn't watch it carefully enough. So while the crust was very crispy, it was also burned in a few places. >.< That made me a bit unhappy, because except for that everything worked out just perfectly.

My family all ate too much and very little is left. :) Which is really the nicest compliment that a cook can get.

Now I still have *lots* of beer left over - but that won't go bad, so that's ok.

My foot hurts, my back hurts, I'm pretty much dead on my feet, I have to do laundry tomorrow, because the linen tablecloth and the napkins all suffered, of course. But all in all, I'm quite pleased. ^___^

Now to play a tiny round of Everquest 2 and then fall into bed.

*HUGS FList*

*hugs* Holidays are exhausting, aren't they? Why do we look forward to them? :)

Cloud: "Give Germany beer! He likes it."

Cloud is confusing Germany the country with Germany the Hetalia character again... :)

Very... :) But then again, it's often the only time the whole family gets together, right? And in our case, that's a nice thing. :) We're so scattered, we rarely manage to get together. And really, I *like* to cook. ^^ It's just... yes, exhausting. *gg*

Well, *I* had a beer, so I think Germany got the beer, all right.

Though... better keep it away from Cloud. It would bowl him over just from the fumes. (I bought dark beer, and it's *strong*!)

It's that strong? Yike, I've heard German beer is...LOL, now if we find Cloud passed out somewhere, we'll know why. He's just too curious for his own good.

Cloud: "RAVEN! There's snow! LOTS OF SNOW!"

Yeah, we're snowed in here.

This is dark beer we're talking about. Then there's a special set of beers that's only brewed during certain times of the year - the 'strong beer'. I had a friend from northern Germany staying here in Bavaria last summer and he and his colleagues were watching soccer and ended up drinking only two or three bottles of the Strong Beer. They couldn't make it to work until 2 pm the next day... And had a hangover the size of Africa. *ggg* They just aren't used to that. So really, all Cloud has to do is *snif* at it, and he'll be out like a light... *gg*

Still snowed in? I've managed to get the snow under control again. The sidewalk is shovelled, the driveway isn't but I manage to get out. Have to do my shopping for the weekend today. Stores close at noon tomorrow and are closed this weekend, so if I need anything, I better get it today...

Cloud: "That's silly." *giggles*

Now Sephy has to watch him, to make sure he doesn't go looking for the stuff...although it might be useful to make him go to sleep at night...

We're still fairly snowed in...it's a small town, so it takes forever for plows to get to us. Last night equipment finally came that made it possible for us to get cars out on the road...but what shape the roads are in, I don't know yet. Yike.

Better *do* keep an eye on him, since dark beers *tend* to also be slightly sweet.

We give children that can't sleep a glass of warm dark beer... ^___^

Oh wow! Sounds like the place I *used* to live in. Once it snowed there, it *really* snowed. Sometimes I couldn't find my car the next day...

Be careful if you have to go out, ok? *HUG*

Hey... the laundry will be fine until tomorrow. *grin* Glad everything went so well!
Dec. 30th, 2010 10:46 am (UTC)

Still haven't done the laundry. ^__^;

I'm happy, too. It's always a lot of anxiety for me beforehand, especially since both my mother and my brother are excellent cooks, and I'm always worried that I can't hold my own next to them. But it worked out fine. :)

I don't mind there being 364 days between this one and the next one, though. ^^;

Sounds like a lovely meal. Tender succulent pork is yummy.

I had some left and have been enjoying it for the last few days. I *love* Bavarian roast pork. But since it's a lot of work to make, I don't do it often...

Still... it was *very* yummy. ^___^

What all is involved in making it?
