Long time, no see...

Most of my posts lately seem to be of the "yes, I'm still alive" variety. >.>

I never thought that finally getting my company moved into new offices would mean such a huge reduction of my free time...

See, so far I'd been working out of my own home. That has advantages: refridgerator not too far away, nice comfy blankets to wrap up in when it's cold, cats to pet, time to do the laundry in between writing letters and so on.

Now I commute.

That's... taking some time to get used to.

I take the train now. Not the subway, but the regular overland train. After doing comparing the costs of using the car and taking the train, I decided to go for the public transportation version.

In winter.

So far, I've missed several trains, spent hours waiting on freezing platforms for trains that are late and actually forgot to switch trains once, because I was reading. And I'm not as flexible, time-wise, as I would be if I went by car. On the other hand, I've avoided all sorts of pile-ups on the highway, that happened because of the weather. And even if I'm dead tired from work, I don't have to worry about driving safely - the trains do that for me. So I guess it's been a positive experience so far.

As to why we moved? Well, my partner and I finally wanted an office where we worked *together*, rather than out of our respective homes, separated by a distance of 80 km. So we picked a place that's almost exactly half way between her place and mine. And we both commute. Now we have a two-room office where one room is the actuall office and the other is our store room. Which is already becoming too small, since we received the first of several book deliveries last week. We'll probably have to look into booking some self-storage space in the area soon.

It's certainly a change of pace to get up and go to work every day, after spending years at home. ^^ I don't mind (not really...). Actually, it's really nice to be working together with someone, rather than always on my own. And it gets me out of the house, which is good, too. ^^ I'm convinced that we're a lot more efficient, now that we work out of the same office.

On the home front, I've managed to catch a cold. All that standing around on drafty platforms, I think. I'm not used to that, yet. Currently I'm coughing to rival my chain-smoking mother, but it'll pass. I just can't seem to put on enough clothes to actually stay warm. I think I'm going to invest in some heavy thermal underwear soon. You know, the type they use when they explore the north pole, or something like that. >.<

I think the biggest change is really the lack of time. I haven't quite adjusted the rest of my life around the fact that I'm out of the house most of the day, lately. Since I also still do my tutoring twice a week, my schedule's even more cramped. Or maybe it's the winter. It's still dark by the time I get home, so it feels like there's nothing left of the day. But I'll get it worked out... ^^

So that's it in a nutshell.

As you can see, I've picked up a few new dragon's eggs. I'm especially happy about the valentine's one, so if you would be so kind as to give them some loving attention by clicking on them, I'd be much obliged. ^__^

That is one thing I really love about getting out to work - mixing with other people. It can be really solitary working from home.

It does take a while to get used to the new routine though. Sounds like your business is really doing well which is great news.

I enjoyed the years on my own. But now I'm also enjoying getting out and seeing new things and people. It was just the right time to do this, because I was starting to get *too* used to being on my own... ^^;;

We're doing really well and looking forward to a successful year. ^^

You're alive! \o/ I was just wondering about you the other day. Seems business is good. I know time spent commuting seems like a waste, but it's good solid reading time too :D
I clickyed the valentine egg - so pretty!

Yes, I'm here. ^^ I do read the LJ posts, but by the time I get through all of them, I'm usually just too tired to respond. *sigh*

Business is doing well. We're confident that we'll manage another big step forward this year.

I don't mind the commuting so much as the time I spend *waiting* for the trains. *sigh*

Thank you! Did you see the little hatchling? It's sooo cute! (I'm so silly sometimes... *gg*)

*clicks the dragons*

I wish I could send you some of the unseasonably-warm weather we've been having here. But I'm glad you're enjoying your work, if not the ride to it. :)

Also, Cloud loves trains, so he might show up and try to ride with you. :)

I wouldn't mind warm weather at the moment. We've been having temperatures the likes we haven't had in something like 70 years. >.< And I don't do well with cold temperatures...

I don't mind the ride - it's the waiting that I mind. But once the weather gets warmer, that won't be as unpleasant as it is now.

I'll keep an eye out for him! I usually ride all the way up front, because then I can get out quickly, when I need to switch. So there's enough room for him and anyone he takes along... ^^

Thanks for petting the dragons...

Cloud: "Trains! YAY!"

Cloud likes to ride on the roof, so I should probably keep him home, although I'm sure Sephy would keep him from falling.

Cloud: *spins* "I never fall! Except when Zack tickles me." *twirls madly* "The butterflies will be back soon, right Raven?"

Today, riding on the roof wouldn't have been a good idea. We had quite a snowstorm blowing through, and there were delays up to 1 1/2 hours... I actually caught a train right on time - or so I thought, until the conductor told me that the train was actually an hour late. What I'd thought was the 8:52 train, was actually the 7:52 train! >.> I didn't mind. I got into the office on time.

So at the moment we'd end up with a Cloudsicle... ^^

It will take a few more weeks, but I'm confident that we'll see the first spring butterflies soon... :)

Cloud: "Cloudsicle?" *giggles* "Don't worry, I don't get cold easily. I came from a very cold place. Seph says I'm always nice and warm." *twirls* "YAY butterflies!"
